  • Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder where red blood cells become sickle-shaped, causing pain, anemia, and organ damage.
  • Day was established by – United Nations in 2008
  • Theme 2025 – ‘Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy’

  • Belonging to – Spartaeinae subfamily.
  • Discovery Site – Karigiri (Elephant Hill), Devarayanadurga.
  • Spartaeus and Sonoita found in India for the first time, earlier they were only in southeast Asia and Africa

NEWS- Ozzo Feni received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

  • Feni – Traditional Indian spirit from Goa
  • Made from – fermentation and double distillation of cashew, apples, or coconut sap.
  • Feni was introduced – by the Portuguese missionaries in the 1600s
  • About Geographical Indication (GI) Tag
        • Governed by – the Geographical Indications of Goods Act, 1999.
        • 1st Indian product to get a GI tag – Darjeeling tea (WB)
        • A GI registration is valid for 10 years.
